Many meditative techniques require one to sit still and silent. But for most of us accumulated stress in our body and mind makes that difficult. Before we can hope to access our inner powerhouse of consciousness, we need to let go of our tensions. Active Meditations have been designed to enable us to consciously express and experience repressed feelings and emotions, and learn the knack of watching our habitual patterns in a new way.

“Shaking Medicine reintroduces the oldest medicine on earth--the ecstatic shaking of the human body. Most people’s worst fear is losing control--of their circumstances, of their emotions, and especially of their bodies. Yet in order to achieve the transcendent state necessary to experience deep healing, we must surrender control. Examining cultural traditions from around the world where shaking has been used as a form of healing--from the Shakers and Quakers of New England to the shaking medicine of Japan, India, the Caribbean, the Kalahari, and the Indian Shakers of the Pacific Northwest show how shaking can bring forth profound therapeutic benefits.” Bradford Keeney, Ph.D.

Kirtan is a form of call-and-response chanting rooted in bhakti (devotional) yoga. The chanting of mantras cleanse the mind and soul, allowing for healing and rejuvenation. The ancient chants used will help you to expand your lung capacity, discover the power of your voice, and bring your mind into alignment with your heart. No previous singing/musical experience is required; just come with an open mind and adventurous spirit! These practices are an excellent complement to your physical/asana practice. Come and enjoy the healing power of sound, breath and meditation.
